CareFirst is contacting individuals affected directly by a cybersecurity breach on Friday, 30 March. A CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield employee was ensnared in an email phishing scam, potentially exposing the personal information of 6,800 members. Attackers potentially gained access to members' ID numbers, birth dates, and several social security numbers. CareFirst is offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to affected members for two years.
